On Sunday 27th September, the biggest international event “Race For The Cure” took place on our island for the first time.
The athletic event filled our hearts with emotion and was completed successfully despite the difficult conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The response from the public was impressive and the involvement of the teams was certainly something different. Each team created their own route which they had declared and shared on their social media. Each route was unique and had its own starting and end points, from villages to cities, from the neighbourhood to the local church, each one having a common goal – to donate to our fellow people who fight against breast cancer each and every day. As a result, this created a “pink online buzz”, with an unprecedented atmosphere on social media.
This year (2020), the event gathered €532,077 in total, between 32 countries, 40935 participants, 4416 teams, and 1014 victory medals. Participations ended at midnight on Wednesday 30th September.
The response from the public towards the awareness and donations regarding Breast Cancer was once again very impressive. The event was organised by The Breast Center of Cyprus, and the proceeds raised from the registration costs were given to Europa Donna Cyprus.
The Breast Center of Cyprus created its own team and organised its own virtual race, with a 3km walk and a 5km run at the Paphos Castle on Sunday 27th September.
All the participants took part in the race for all women, for our mothers, sisters, and grandmothers everywhere. For all women who have fought and won, for those who are still fighting, and to honour those who didn’t make it and are no longer with us.
The sponsors for the race were Hellenic Bank, Aretaeio Hospital, Agios Therissos Diagnostic Center, Apostolos Ioannou Medical Supplies, Alion, and Cyprus Paintball.
