As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the following events are planned for the current year:
MARCH – Lectures and Free examinations for the prevention and treatment of lymphedema
On the occasion of World Lymphedema Day (March 6th) the Breast Centre of Cyprus organised events to inform women who have experienced breast cancer, of prevention and treatment of lymphedema. The Breast Centre of Cyprus, among other things, offers free evaluation and provides information about lymphedema as well as free analysis of body composition with the help of specialised equipment to women who have in the past undergone breast cancer treatments. Additionally, lectures will be organised by well-established scientists that will cover matters of “Breast Cancer and Lymphedema” at the University of Cyprus.
MAY – Informative lectures and free examinations on early diagnosis and correct treatment of the Thyroid Gland
On the occasion of World Thyroid Day in May, an event will take place that will host distinguished doctors giving talks to inform and raise public awareness on the diseases of the Thyroid Gland targeting early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. During the event, free and without an appointment clinical examinations will be offered including thyroid ultrasound and blood analysis tests on the thyroid hormones where applicable.
JUNE – Two-Day Convention/Forum on Breast health
In June the third Forum on breast health will take place in the presence of world-renowned speakers. More specifically, the Forum will host remarkable and well-known scientists from Cyprus and abroad as part of its goal to inform the public of the latest developments on matters of the breast. The Convention, which will be open to the public, is organised for obvious reasons (scientific medical convention at the University of Cyprus. The Forum is part of the now annual institution that is organised in cooperation with the Medical Association of Nicosia – Kyrenia Hippocrates and is recommended for attendance by the European School of Oncology. This year, the Convention will specifically deal with the basic conditions of qualitative care of cancer as well as the latest developments and quality control of breast surgeries in Europe. Furthermore, plethora of other specific matters will be elaborated concerning oncological treatment, modern imaging methods, MRI and PET scan will be presented and discussed. The Convention will be conducted in Greek and English and a translator will be available to translate on the spot. Participation will be free.
OCTOBER – Conducting two-day convention under the auspices of “International Breast Ultrasound School”, IBUS
For the first time in Cyprus and under the auspices of the “Interantional Breast Ultrasound School” IBUS, a series of scientific lectures will be conducted during 8-10 of October and will cover issues on breast diseases. These specific lectures are specialised and their goal is to not only provide lectures of high standards and quality but to also focus on interaction. The success on undertaking such a convention helps in the realisation of the vision of the Breast Centre of Cyprus. The specific institution (given that the School in question was convinced that the Breast Centre of Cyprus is able to undertake the organistation of such convention) has already announced the event on its website (https://ibus.org/). The theme of the convention will be determined in the near future.
NOVEMBER – Cycling for life
Having someone to exercise works as defense in combating cancer. The Breast Centre of Cyprus in its attempt to emphasise the benefits of exercise is willing in the month of November to organise an event of athletic nature. More information will be announced in the near future.
OTHER – Monthly informative presentations in organised groups
Prevention and self-examination might just be the first tool against breast cancer. The Breast Centre of Cyprus has in the past established the organisation of short,monthly informative presentations in organised groups with the ultimate goal to raise public awareness concerning the specific issue. These presentations will continue to take place in 2020.
